The Short Story

The Bahía Mediterráneo is part of the historic Edificio Mediterráneo building and takes the guest back to the 1930s. Most of the interior design has been preserved, even the waiters wear a stylish uniform, appropriate for the time. Thanks to its unique architecture, the Edificio Mediterráneo is the outstanding building of Palma’s port line.

Hollywood stars such as Ava Gardner, the legendary crime novelist Agatha Christie or the American President Richard Nixon have already spent the night here: the former Gran Hotel Mediterráneo is one of the most famous buildings in Palma.

Historical Facts

In the year of its opening in 1910, the hotel was located directly on the sea, separated only by a few rocks from the city beach of Palma, the s’Aigua Dolçe. The building got its current face from the Mallorcan architect Francisco Roca Simó, under whose direction the Gran Hotel Mediterráneo was rebuilt in 1928. The architect incorporated Art Deco elements into the architecture of the Gran Hotel Mediterráneo.

The hotel experienced its heyday on the pulsating harbor mile, accommodating celebrities from film and politics. With the Mediterráneo 1930 restaurant and the neighboring Tito’s, it was at the center of the Mediterranean metropolis’ nightlife. Since 2017, The Bahía Mediterráneo belongs to the portfolio of the Zhero Group under the guidance of interior designer and hotelier Jens Liebhauser.

Chef Raphael

The talented Raphael Herzog started his career in the world of star gastronomy in Salzburg, Vienna and Munich. Under the wings of Michelin-starred chef Klaus Brunmayr, overall culinary director of the Zhero Group, his talent was shaped for a top level position. In the Mallorcan and Austrian restaurants of Jens Liebhauser, Raphael Herzog worked as Sous Chef. For three years now, Herzog has been the heart of the restaurants.
